RIP Mister Wizard

LOS ANGELES | Don Herbert, who as TV’s “Mr. Wizard” introduced generations of young viewers to the joys of science, died Tuesday at age 89.

In “Watch Mr. Wizard,” produced from 1951 to 1964, Herbert turned TV into an entertaining classroom, demonstrating experiments using household items.

Herbert’s place in TV history was acknowledged by later stars. When “Late Night With David Letterman” debuted in 1982, Herbert was among the first-night guests.

In the 1980s Herbert was the host of “Mr. Wizard’s World” on Nickelodeon.

Here’s the intro to his show on Nickelodeon, which I was totally obsessed with.
